1. EIN PROSIT

The most important song of Oktoberfest, Ein Prosit is the classic “CHEERS” song! It reminds us why we’re at Oktoberfest: the Gemütlichkeit!. While it doesn’t have a direct translation, it broadly means a feeling of “being in a happy place”

Words to know:
“Schenkt ein, trinkt aus, schenkt ein, trinkt aus!”
(I poured you one, drink it up, I poured you one,
drink it up!)

Ein Prosit, ein Prosit
Der Gemutlichkeit
Ein Prosit, ein Prosit
Der Gemutlichkeit

Oans! Zwoa! Drei! G’Suffa!

2. COUNTRY ROADS

If you don’t already know this 1970’s hit, you will after Oktoberfest Parklands. It has become one of the all time signature songs of Oktoberfest Munich thanks to its peak sing-a-long vibes.

Words to know:
Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue ridge mountains,
Shenandoah river –
Life is old there
Older than the trees
Younger than the mountains
Growin like a breeze
Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

3. FLIEGERLIED

The reasons for this song’s popularity are twofold: it’s an Ohrwürm, the colourful German term meaning “ear worm”. Secondly: hand movements! You can’t just learn the words to the Fliegerlied – you’ve gotta learn to pretend to swim, flex your biceps and jump along with the tune

Words to know:
Bin so stark, stark, stark,
so hoch – uoh-oh-oh

4. LIVING NEXT DOOR
TO ALICE

We’ve all asked this question many times before and yep, Oktoberfest crowds still can’t get enough of putting it out there: “Who the f*** is Alice?” The biggest hit from English rockers Smokie, they released Living Next Door to Alice in 1976, and it’s been on repeat in Oktoberfest ever since

Words to know
Oh, I don’t know why she’s leaving,
Or where she’s gonna go,
I guess she’s got her reasons,
But I just don’t want to know,
‘Cos for twenty-four years
I’ve been living next door to Alice.

5. VIVA COLONIAS

One of the youngest additions to the Oktoberfest songbook is the 2003 Viva Colonia. Celebrating Cologne has become one of the most natural things to do at Oktoberfest with this funky song

Words to know:
Da simmer dabei! Dat is prima! VIVA COLONIA
