WHAT IS OKTOBERFEST PARKLANDS?

A Bavarian cultural festival celebrating great beer, amazing food, German traditions and a heap of other fun entertainment!

WHERE IS OKTOBERFEST PARKLANDS?

Oktoberfest Parklands is at Patrick White Lawns, in front of the National Library in the Parliamentary Triangle. It’s a five minute drive (or 20 minute walk) from Canberra’s CBD.

WHAT ARE THE OPENING HOURS FOR OKTOBERFEST PARKLANDS?

Oktoberfest Parklands opens at 1pm and closes at 9pm on Saturday October 20.

HOW CAN I GET TO OKTOBERFEST PARKLANDS?

Oktoberfest Parklands is at Patrick White Lawns, in front of the National Library of Australia. The only entry and exit is on the Flynn Place side of Patrick White Lawns. Check out the map with bus stops, pick ups and entry location here.

It’s super easy to Oktoberfest, here are your options!

  1. Catch the bus. And walk towards the entry near the lake alongside Flynn Drive. More details on public transport can be found here.
  2. Get those steps up and warm up for the big day. There is one key route from the city across Commonwealth Avenue, and another from the bus stops to get you to the entry. Check out the map here.
  3. Book an Uber or taxi. You can utilise the Uber app or the taxi network to get lakeside. Be aware of surcharges during peak periods as they can hurt. Ask your driver you off along (safely) Parkes Place, King Edward Terrace or Langton Crescent and walk towards the entry near the lake alongside Flynn Drive.

  4. Hitch a ride. Convinced someone to drop you off? Get them to drop you (safely) Parkes Place, King Edward Terrace or Langton Crescent and walk towards the entry near the lake alongside Flynn Drive.

Getting home.
There’ll be buses running from Langton Crescent into the city, otherwise the taxi and Uber pick up zone will be along Newlands St, behind the National Library.

CAN I BRING MY OWN ALCOHOL IN?

Nein. Oktoberfest isn’t just about the bier, there are plenty of other options including cider, wine, mixers and non-alcoholic drinks too.

CAN I BRING ANY LIQUIDS IN WITH ME?

Nein, no liquids are permitted. Liquids include foundation, water, sports drinks (and that roadie you’ve brought with you), plus everything else that is an actual liquid. Sunscreen can be found at First Aid, Red Frogs and the Info Tent.

CAN I BRING MY OWN FOOD WITH ME?

Nein. Food is a huge part of what makes Oktoberfest special and we have lined up an extensive variety in the Bavarian Food Truck Village that will cater to most dietary requirements.

CAN I ONLY DRINK BEER?

Nein! There will be a heap of non-bier options, including wine, cider and mixed drinks. Plus, non-alcoholic drinks too.

DO I HAVE TO DRESS UP?

You don’t have to dress up, but it’s definitely encouraged! We say embrace the day, so get your friends together and don your lederhosen or dirndl.

CAN CHILDREN ATTEND THE FESTIVAL?

Nein, Oktoberfest Parklands is 18+ only. As we are a licenced venue your ID will be checked upon arrival. You’ll need valid Australian Government issued photo ID for entry otherwise you’ll be denied. Sorry, but Keypass is not accepted as a form of ID in the ACT.

I NEED TO BRING MY OWN MEDICATION IN WITH ME, HOW DO I DO THIS?

If you need to bring in prescription medication, you’ll need to make sure it is in its original packaging with the dispensary label. The name on the label must match the ID of the ticket holder. Over the counter and loose medications cannot be brought into the event (ie Panadol & antihistamines). Please be aware that security may ask the medical team to check your medication upon arrival. The first aid tent will have most over-the-counter medication available such as Panadol, aspirin, antihistamines and tampons.

WHAT'S THE BEST TIME TO ARRIVE?

Early! There are great competitions and entertainment early in the day so make the most of it. Start planning as soon as the set times are out, sign up to get them straight to your inbox here.

CAN I SMOKE IN OKTOBERFEST PARKLANDS?

You can only smoke in the designated areas. Keep non-smokers in mind and don’t smoke anywhere but those designated areas. Security will be monitoring for people smoking in the incorrect areas.

WILL THERE BE A CLOAK ROOM?

Ja, there will be a cloakroom that  you can utilise on the day

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

The show goes on, rain, hail or shine. Thankfully, the centre piece of Oktoberfest Parklands is a giant undercover beer hall!

If the weather isn’t looking great make sure to pack a poncho and suitable footwear, but please leave the umbrella at home.

HOW DO I GET IN TOUCH ABOUT BEING A FOOD OR MARKET VENDOR?

LOST SOMETHING AT OKTOBERFEST?

Lost items will be at the Info Booth throughout the day and then handed over to the police after the event. Contact ACT Lost Property, 86 Vicars St, Mitchell. Make sure you give them a call 02 6133 2100 to check your item is there before visiting.

WILL YOU BE POSTING THE SET TIMES IN ADVANCE?

Set times will be released a week or two before the big day. Want us to send the set times directly to you as soon as they’re released? Make sure you’ve signed up!

WHAT TIME DOES THE FESTIVAL END?

Oktoberfest Parklands will wrap up at 9pm.

ARE YOU HIRING STAFF OR VOLUNTEERS?

Do you have mad event skills? Fancy yourself a bit of a bar ninja? Applications for bar and wait staff, volunteers and event staff are now open. Apply here.

CAN I LEAVE AND COME BACK IN?

There are strictly no pass-outs during the event so be sure to pack everything you think you’ll need for the day.

WILL THERE BE COSTUMES AND MERCH ON SALE?

Ja! If you missed the opportunity to purchase a costume with your ticket, you can purchase costumes and accessories from the merch stall on the day.

CAN I BRING A CAMERA?

Small still cameras are allowed, but any professional still cameras or video and audio recording devices, including GoPros (other than phones), aren’t allowed in. Leave them at home and just enjoy the show!

WILL THERE BE ATMS?

Oktoberfest Parklands is 100% tap & go so no cash money is needed.

ARE CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED? WHAT ABOUT DEBIT OR CASH?

Bring your cards because no cash will be accepted by any food truck and bar. Oktoberfest Parklands is 100% tap & go only.

CAN I GET WATER? ARE THERE FREE REFILL STATIONS?

There will be lots of water stations around the site and at the bars. Bottles can be purchased or you can bring in an empty bottle to reuse and help the environment.

WHAT ABOUT AN AFTER PARTY?

WHERE CAN I PARK?

We don’t encourage driving, but if you’ve drawn the short straw, the closest parking is at the National Library and Mall Road West Parking, accessible via Parkes Place West. Read the signs and make sure you’ve got the right parking ticket – there’s nothing worse than a fine to ruin your day. The lake end of Parkes Place West and Queen Elizabeth Terrace will be closed from 11am on Saturday 20 October, so access will only be via King Edward Terrace. Check out the map for the details and directions.

WHERE IS THE NEAREST BUS STOP?

The nearest bus stops are along King Edward Terrace and Commonwealth Avenue. From there it’s a quick walk to Flynn Place towards the entry gates.

UBER OR TAXIS?

Why not both? There are four different taxi companies in the ACT, and you can use Uber in the exact same way as you would at home.

BEER KELLNER FAQ

WHEN ARE THE BEER KELLNER AVAILABLE TO BOOK?

Beer Kellner are available during Oktoberfest Parklands to book for either 1:30pm to 3:30pm or 4:00pm to 6:00pm for a maximum of eight ticket-holders per booking.

HOW LONG CAN I BOOK A BEER KELLNER FOR?

You can book a Beer Kellner for 2 hours, from either 1:30pm to 3:30pm or 4:00pm to 6:00pm

WHO ARE THE BEER KELLNER?

The Beer Kellner are a collection of experienced hospitality staff who are local to Canberra. They’ve been selected based on their service level, banter skills and all have their current RSA.

THERE AREN’T ANY BEER KELLNER SHOWING UP AS AVAILABLE, HOW CAN I BOOK ONE?

If you can’t see any Beer Kellners available online, it means we are booked out! Join our waitlist by sending us an email at gretl@kicksentertainment.com.au. If a cancellation pops up, we’ll be in touch.

WHAT EXACTLY CAN A BEER KELLNER DO?

Besides wait on you hand and foot? Here’s what Beer Kellners can do for you;

  • Order food & beverages on your behalf and deliver it right to your table*
  • Reserve a table for you*
  • Curate your experience by creating a menu for you and your group
  • Deliver your food and beverages
  • Be your personal photographer
  • Give you a tour of the event, let you know what’s popular, their recommendations and guide you to where everything is located

I HAVE TO CANCEL MY RESERVATION – HOW CAN I DO THIS?

You can cancel your reservation by contacting us here. We’ll remove it from our system and process the refund (pending our cancellation policy)

WHAT IS THE CANCELLATION POLICY?
  • 100% of your payment will be returned if cancelled 5 days or more from date
  • 70% of your payment will be returned if cancelled 4 days from date
  • 50% of your payment will be returned if 48-hour cancellation
  • 0% returned if your booking is cancelled within 24 hours
WHAT CAN’T THE BEER KELLNER DO?

There is only a small list of what Beer Kellners can’t do;

  • Make the chefs cook faster
  • Hand feed you
  • Park or drive your vehicle
  • Take responsibility for any of your valuables
WHEN DO I PAY FOR THE BEER KELLNER?

You are required to pay for your Beer Kellner in full at the time of booking. We take most major credit cards and it is managed all through our booking system Checkfront.

HOW DO I KNOW WHERE TO MEET MY BEER KELLNER?

48hrs before your reservation you’ll be sent an email from Gretl outlining the details of where to meet your Beer Kellner at Oktoberfest Parklands. If you don’t hear from her, you can always get in touch here.

HOW DO I ACCESS PRE-SALE TICKETS?

DOES +BF MEAN I CAN BRING MY BEST FRIEND FOR FREE?

Leider nein. The ‘bf’ after the ticket price means ‘plus booking fee’, not ‘plus best friend’.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN MY TICKET?

Entry into the event, wunderbar entertainment, a commemorative Oktoberfest Parklands Beer Stein (beer glass) and your first drink is on us.

CAN I GET DISCOUNT GROUP TICKETS?

DOES MY NAME HAVE TO BE ON THE TICKET?

No, you just need to bring your valid ticket and ensure that no one else has used it already to gain entry. Treat your ticket like cash! Don’t leave it lying around to be copied.

I AM UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE, CAN I COME TO OKTOBERFEST?

Nein, Oktoberfest Parklands is a strictly 18+ event. All ticket holders will be asked to provide valid proof of ID to gain entry on the day (current Australian driver’s license, passport or Australian government issued proof of age card).

I AM OVER 18 BUT DON’T HAVE A PHOTO ID, BUT I TOTALLY LOOK OVER 21. WILL I BE ALLOWED IN?

Even if you’ve got a government issued seniors card, you will be ID checked at Oktoberfest Parklands. As we are a licenced venue your ID will be checked upon arrival. You’ll need valid Australian Government issued photo ID for entry otherwise you’ll be denied. Sorry folks, Keypass is not accepted as a form of ID in the ACT.

DO I HAVE TO PRINT MY TICKET OR CAN I BRING IT ON MY PHONE?

Phone is good to go, unless your screen is smashed to smithereens – then you should definitely bring a printed copy 😉

I HAVE A PHOTO OF MY PASSPORT/ID, THAT’LL BE FINE, RIGHT?

Nein, photos, photocopies or jaw dropping illustrations of your ID will not be accepted. Valid and current proof of ID is needed to gain entry, otherwise you’ll be left on the wrong side of the fence. This includes current Australian driver’s licence, passport (including overseas passports) or Australian government-issued proof of age cards). Note, Keypass is not an acceptable form of ID in the ACT.

WHAT IS THE PRESALE?

The presale ticket period is when tickets go on sale early, as a reward for our Oktoberfest subscribers. These subscribers are given a code which allows them to buy tickets ahead of the general public. This means they have first choice to buy 1st release tickets, which are the cheapest available. Subscribers aren’t guaranteed a ticket during the restricted presale, but they’re given the opportunity to browse ahead of other fans who don’t have the code.
